About This Blog
I’m Helen Wilkie. Since you’ve arrived at my Tips for New Managers blog, I assume you are a new or recently appointed manager. If you’re like most new managers, you are facing some problems you may never have anticipated. You’re busier than you could have imagined, you’re having to deal with people in a way you never did before, you’ve had to give up the function you’re comfortable with, people are constantly asking you questions — and those are just a few of your challenges.
Well, fear not — you’ve come to the right place. As a professional speaker, trainer, author and coach, I’ve worked with a host of people in your position and I’ve helped them find their way to success. I’ve held their hands (figuratively, of course!) as they found their way through all their new duties and learned the universal skills of management. And, much to their surprise, they didn’t lose their minds after all!
It’s interesting to me that most new managers face the same challenges, no matter what type of business, industry or organization they work in. So this blog will focus on these challenges, and I’ll offer short, bite-size pieces of advice and information you can adapt easily to your own circumstances. And if you would like to comment or ask a question on any post, simply add your comment and I’ll respond to it as soon as possible. You’ll be part of a community of your peers, and it’s my hope that you’ll be able to help one another as well as learning from me.
And if you’d like more in-depth help as you travel this new road, visit The Manager’s Journey and find out about “The 7 Biggest Mistakes New Managers Make and How to Avoid Them”.
